hi everyone,

hope you can offer some advise on this one.

i've had my glowworm 15hx just under 2 years without any issues. yesterday in the early hours, the system had stopped. I could not get the system restarted without the f22 error keep coming up. At the time the boiler would make a very load rolling roaring sound, and you could what sounded like water droplets inside it?

i left it overnight and tried again 24 hours later. the system fired up no problem and has continued to run okay for the last 3 hours. ive left it to run on heating only.

all my rads except two have TSR's. All the rads for now are piping hot as normal. I did not find any trapped air in any rads.

The oldest part of the system is the pump. it was fitted in 93. standard british gas grade. I noticed from the day the new boiler was installed it is extremely loud. Ive noticed sometimes it starts extremely loud or the noise will build up over an hour. would this be the likely fault of what caused the issue in the first place?

cheers
leigh

f22 is circulation/temp rise related most commonly a faulty pump/blocked cold feed (open vented). I would also be checking the bypass and system balancing. ;)

DM is your man for this ;)

DM F22 is not listed in my HXi manuals  What is the official cause of this code

the 15hx is a flexicom heat only boiler (hxi is a different beast), F22 is similar to ecotec- check pump, remove air, check system pressure (although no pressure sensor-it monitors flow and return ntcs akin to the turbomax plus) check circulation and on open vented check cold feed for blockage/header tank for sticking ball valve. ;)

Thanks DM and everyone else for the advise. I'll pass that along to the british gas engineer tomorrow. i see it's a common thing then?

It's an interesting point about air in the rads. Our bathroom rad and the smallest one nearest the cylinder used to suffer with continuing air build up daily. They are nearest each other as well. This took amount 3 months of continous discharges, before the problem went away 1.5 years ago. At the time some black sludge would be present, but now it runs clear. Each rad i checked did pass water fine, and very hot water as well.

I have checked all the rads and there are no cold spots.

I've not engaged the hot water in fear of the same error f22 kicking in again. i have an electric immersion as a backup on my cylinder.

The temp read out on the boiler has been gradually changing between 68-74 tonight. i have set it on 70. its been going 6 hours okay now.

The pump in the airing cuboard nearest the cyclinder is louder than ever, and sounds like jet ski. It's been waken us up in the mornings, its that bad at present. Is this a common thing?
I will ensist the pump be replaced this time.

In addition to that what should i observe the british gas engineer do, once the pump is replaced, to ensure he cover's the steps of checking the pump, air pressure, circulation, and doing an open vented check? i'm contious now as i reported the excessive noise 6 months back, and they said its normal

What is a ntcs by the way?

thanks

negative temperature co-efficient

thanks for the info.

british gas swapped my old pump out for a new groundfus. much more quiet. our old 16 year old pump was quite clogged up.

going for a powerflush and magnaclean fit out in summer time, after this experince.

cheers all for the help.
