OMG joe ? what planet are you from??? Rosemary's in perfect condition, with all lugs and no chips, splintering etc will get you a max of 15p each. Most old rosemary roofs were nailed with big headed clout nails that have rusted so you lose at least 50%, regardless of roof condition. I'd say a further 35% would be worthless to a salvager. By my reckoning your looking at a max of £450 , and to get that the roofer would have to be very careful and patient to take them off and i can guarantee he's not priced to keep any. Have you any idea of the labour involved in such a task? No i thought not, now leave topics you clearly know nothing about to people who do like noseall.

To the OP , i have done a few BIG rosemary roofs, including 2 for the duke of westminster at eccleston hall and eccleston paddocks in cheshire. And it wasn't financially viable to keep , handle , store and reuse the old ones. not even for the cuts on the spires ( round spires , with 5000 tiles each, x 4)

Maybe things are different in Anglesy. They are barely nailed around our way and it's just a matter of lifting them off and stacking them up. Child's play. Why don't you stick to a topic you know something about?

I wish, it took a month for each one mate, 2 guys.

I used to work for this company, not done anything near as big since going self-employed. Have a look at some of the jobs we have done.

The tiles aren't nailed in every tile unless it is very steep - like a spire for example. You've only ever seen one job done (bet you made the tea).

Well why do you think that all rosemary tiles have large clouts nailing them? Only very steep roofs are treated thus - ergo you've only ever seen one being re-roofed.

point out to all and sundry you half do things? The nail holes are there for a reason. Around here mate roofing is a skilled trade , done by professionals (mostly) not half arsed slapped on work like your talking.

You are talking rubbish. Tiles are nailed about every fifth row. What do you do for a living? It's not working on roofs - that's for sure.

Give it a rest Joe. You shot yourself in the foot by advising customers to 'take' any tiles the roofer had salvaged, or to 'tell' the roofer to give them a bonus or whatever.

Advising people to do these things is poor advise Joe. Fortunately there are very few people that are bonkers enough to start dicking around with a bloke who is about to make their home weather-tight.

The roofer is the servant, the owner the master. You TELL him what to do or send him packing. Rosemary tiles simply lift off and are then stacked on a pallet. Then you call the reclaim man in to give you a price. Simple really. Why are you so subservient? Be a man for Heaven's sake.

"tell us" what to do and we will walk with out hesitation.
There has to be mutual respect for contracts to run smoothly.

As for the salvage, There is more to saving a few tiles than lifting them off and stacking in pallets.. who gets them to the ground?

I would advise any roofer here to clearly claim ownership of salvaged materials in writing within their quote.

As there are nobs out there that might try and take it from under your nose....

So how would you suppose stripping them off ? lifting every single one carefully and passing it down? on a 20,000 tile job? they will be slid down the roof and most will be unusable.

You have no idea what your talking about, did you labour for a roofer once or something? A 'little' knowledge about a subject (what you have) is worse than none.
