Turn ignition on holding the trip reset button. It then displays test. Dials speedo, rev counter temp gauge & fuel gauge all move, then the code comes up. Found that on the web, now I want to know what the code is telling me & how to reset.

Ok.
What you have done is not the most reliable of scans. If you're worried about it then get an OBDII scanner on it.
From a quick google search the '96**' block seems to be the Ford PATS immobiliser system.

Neo, does this mean I have to take it a garage that has the OBD11 Scanner?
What does the Ford PATS immobilser system, mean
Thanks for taking the time.

yep, get a proper scan done on it and see whats there.
Pretty much every garage in the country should have a scanner to get the codes, so doesnt have to be the dealer / specialist or the likes.

I had found these sites & spent a bit of time looking, my error code starts '9'
these are all 'P'.
It could be p & 9 are similar as its on the display.

I posted the links as a nice way to let you know that your scan result was meaningless, I didn't realise you'd been there already.

ask there wether there is anyone near to you who has a scanner and scan your car for some beer tokens?
or ask there for the correct lead for your car,bet it will cost less then half what ford will charge you for a scan,
iirc they will charge iro £85 or whatever they charge per hour.

I joined...Oh what a strange forum, you have to pay to look at certain things.
I would call it a privaye club.
Was advisd to post in the general chat area, got advice, disconnect the battery re connect & see if it re appears.

I use a Gendan GCR10 code reader...does engine light diagnostics and resets, for less than £100. It scans any petrol car 2001 or newer and any diesel car 2004 or newer. Tremendous bit of kit.

soz m8 must have change there policy, think its to stop the technical info being used and abused?
look on ebay for scanners,i was in gsf at the weekend and iirc they had a hand held scanner for less then £50.

Not going to buy a scanner if I cant do the fix.
Will see what happens after I disconnect the battery.

Got a free scan, it was fuel gauge or fuel sensor, they think because I filled the tank. I always do hate going to petrol garages.
Anyway he has reset it.
