Alright guys,

my sink is leaking, specifically this bit around where its actually joined onto the bottom of the sink

I'm guessing there's meant to be a seal around the bottom of the sink and that part that has dissolved.

Do I need to get a new one of those bits or can I just use some sealant to go round it? If I need a new one I assume B&Q etc do them? It says A McAlpine out of interest (as in Alfred?)

Thanks for any help

That`s Sir Mac Alpine to you  and yes, try some sealer if you have a tube handy - cost of new tube won`t be far off cost of part ;)

McAlpine a fine Glasgow company, first class Plumbing fittings of Clyde Built quality.

Esoo, any good Plumbers Merchants will stock McAlpine fittings.

Thanks guys,

just out of interest does this thing have a name? Is it a waste trap?

Have you tried tightening the large nut where the plug goes?

A large flat blade or box spanner will do it.

There is a black rubber seal underneath between the sink and the white plastic. It will not dissolve.

Thanet.

the waste might be mcalpine but the pipework is rubbish and no sign of a trap :?:

As in its leaking because that's untightened itself and thus there's a tiny gap between the sink/seal? I'll give it a try.

As for rubbish pipework; what's missing? That's the second little "sink" by the way, the main one is to the left - that might have a trap?

Well, that didn't work and it has caused the other side to start leaking now :/ I think the washer is buggered with that one since its one of the pipes thats leaking

Looks like a B & Q waste kit to me which are *****. Will it not tighten from the top :?:

Might pay you to buy a new basket strainer for £4 than mess with it for hours. :D

yeah I just realised that he said tighten from the top heh. I've had a crack at at with a pair of pliers and it seems to have done the trick, although it kept turning as if it wasn't tightening. And yeah I think its from B&Q.

What exactly do I need to buy if it doesnt stop? The whole thing or just something like this;

ta,

coming up tomorrow; new topic - leaking pipe under sink!

That will do you or the B &Q ones will be ok.

Not happy with their waste kit but see if you can do the job without needing a new waste. :D

Rip it all out mate, go to a Plumbers Merchants & get all McAlpine fittings to do the job, it'll save your blood pressure going through the roof!!

I would tend to agree with Delta and redo the lot as you could be there all day! :(
