I couldn't careless about the smokers, it's up to them but keep the germs away from the non-smoker

Kinda tricky if you grow your own just like folk who have their own still and produce hooch but plenty more drugs to tax.... I'm sure that there are folk out there growing their own tobacco...Can't tax that either

I've grown my own in the past...there was no tax for years but an EEC directive a few years back states that full tax should be paid.
I read now that their is no tax applicable until the leaves are shredded...then it is the growers responsibility to weigh the tobacco and inform Customs and Excise so they can bill them...Yeah right!
Customs can't be bothered to raid countless OAPs greenhouses so they have this trust the grower policy...I'd love to know how many declare their crop each year.
I wouldn't order a new aircraft carrier on the back of it.
It's staggering that Alcohol & tobacco are legal despite killing 100's thousands a year, yet certain drugs which are far less harmful are illegal. The 'war on drugs' has been a staggering failure and such a waste of money. Drugs should be legalised, regulated and taxed. Why is it ok for somebody to drink 10 pints down the pub on a friday, but somebody who prefers smoking cannabis or taking ecstasy/magic mushrooms/LSD e.t.c are criminalised and risk gaining a criminal record? Since the dawn of time people have used chemicals to alter their state of mind, what's the problem? It's far safer to regulate the supply of drugs, many problems of drug use come from the fact that unscrupulous dealers cut their drugs with all sort of ****.
One thing you might have missed is... there are a lot of people employed fighting the effects of drugs. So, what would they give them to do if drugs are free ?
LargeWrench is of course absolutely correct. But these "dangerous" drugs need to remain illegal because they literally will open your mind- you'll see through every piece of crap on the news for what it really is...
Tobacco? Does F*ck all but make you unfit and die prematurely.
Alcohol? Nice in moderation, makes you a wee bit creative but one gulp too many you've gone over the edge and are into stoopid slurred land. Makes you fat, costs a fortune.
I've posted it before and I stand by it. People who have never taken "illegal" drugs should not ever be given the power to dictate whether their use should be legal or illegal. They do not understand what they're talking about.
My 40th back in 2008 was a brilliant night. My brother and I picked and ate freshly, about 80-100 magic mushrooms(Liberty Caps) each. Right on the field next to my partners house...Psilocybin is a very potent drug, they're still experimenting with it for many uses to treat a lot of psychological disorders.
I first tripped with mushrooms aged 15 in 1984. I'm not mad either
But if you've never taken them, please don't tell me if I can or can't.
As the late and exceptionally great Bill Hicks once said:

I used to do drugs, but I'll tell you something honestly about drugs, honestly, and I know it's not a very popular idea, you don't hear it very often anymore, but it is the truth: I had a great time doing drugs. Sorry. Never murdered anyone, never robbed anyone, never raped anyone, never beat anyone, never lost a job, a car, a house, a wife or kids, laughed my ass off, and went about my day
Or an even better one to put down an anti drug heckler....

My source? A field. August until the first hard frost. Maybe July if a wet warm summer. Can be eaten raw, dried for preservation, rehydrated and made into tea.

The problem is that once upon a time - maybe 50 years ago, smoking was acceptable, if not encouraged... many people were paid in "fags"... and with film stars making it all seem cool... it mushroomed. So now we have an industry that generates far too much tax for the government to lose, and of course the jobs involved in the production. The government is now stymied, and can only go down the route of "telling us" it's unhealthy, and 'encouraging' a decline.
I have never smoked, and really can't understand why the youth of today would even consider it... the adverts are bad enough "smoking kills" and at £7 a packet !!
