wbp ply bathroom floor???

just curious what you pros do with prepping the bathroom floor....

wbp 18mm at least... even if it raises the floor higher than next room?
same height wbp in mm to match the next floor?

im thinking strength is more important than the two floors being same height, so sacrafices have to be made???

also do you prime the wbp or only if the (flexible) adhesive bag advices it.

I am not a pro, just tiled the whole bathroom. The floorboards were rotten but even if they were not, I would remove them anyway. Then made the new floor from WBP. In this way the difference in the levels is not so big. Finished it with a threshold from B&Q, they and the other sheds sell thresholds suitable for different levels and different floor finishes - tiles and carpet in my case.

when you say 18mm are you talking about total replacement of the floorboards or overboarding?

total replacement should be 25mm and overboarding is 15mm minimum (imo)

I'd go for pulling up the old floor and re-doing it in WBP. I recently did a large room like that, with noggins under the short edges. It is firmer, stronger and more rigid, and i think quieter too. If you can carry an 8x4 sheet into teh room, you should have very few joins (which are where most flexing is found)

I used 18mm but this was not to be tiled, maybe the 25mm is even more rigid, I don't know.

any recommendations on the addy/grout etc i think bal flexible for both just for the added peace of mind, also do i leave an expansion gap around the perimeter of the floor for the ply

6mm tile backerboard or at the very LEAST 12mm WBP ply, if you lift your boards to replace with ply (not overboarding) you will have to seal the underside and edges before fitting, also dont nail the ply, screw it at 150mm centres

Bal single part flexi will be more than up to the job

i would put a cement backerboard down first mate

Don't put anything ontop off the osb....
Lift and replace with wbp ply...seal underside and edges prior to fixing ply down with acrylic primer...


Osb is like weetabix....you will need fix cement boards down ontop off it with a SPF....thus turning it into weetabix....

Thanks Guys, I am widowed female the builder that fitted it said it was marine ply athough it looked like chipboard to me no no he said thats a special looking ply. I only worked it out when I saw one of the bills and some of it got wet yes just like weetabix your spot on anyway...his coming around tomorrow to chat about it.
I try and do most things myself this was too physical for me. Your help is always great thanks again not sure what I will say to him but chin up.

Hi Guys well contractor not interested in changing it was very nasty but what the heck moving on been into local merchants they have the following which they tell me is a boil plywood ? if I buy and cut in small runs with my jig I should be able to fit it by myself and get rid of the OSD been into the yard and the stamp on the ply is 2x EN636 2 EN314 2 Ext E2 any good ? to replace OSB floors in upstair bathroom so that I might tile it do I need to varnish it/ seal it in some way basically is this fit for purpose? CE 0407CPD 436 2x EN636 2 EN314 2 Ext E2
