Customer has the above oil fired boiler which was locking out.
Turned out to be the motor found replacement and fitted. Started boiler, fan run, ignition no main burner, then to lock out.
Reset a couple of times still no main burner and fan would not start

Stripped off pump tried reset and fan starts every time, so stripped pump down, was clean didnt look worn so replaced on motor, then tried fan and would not kick in, pump seems to be stopping it, now believe this is what took out original motor.

Cured this by nipping plate on rather than tightening down, several resets later buner still not firing

Removed injector feed pipe from pump run it and no fuel coming, then tried solenoid found this to be getting power though appears not to be working. With solenoid still off gave fan a quick run and fuel came into the chamber :p

So oil chaps and fonts of knowledge does anyone know the part number, I assume, as I dont know, the pump and solenoid come as one part.

Its a Riello G7Q burner made for Boulter.

Or has anyone got a manual for a Boulter Camray Quartet ;)

There are two commpn pumps, one for the RDB burners and one for the G series the one you need is the 3007811. If you ring Riello you can get a CD full of burner information, otherwise Worcester might supply a Quartet manual.

Thanks oilman, will give Burty a try and will Speak to Mike at Riello tomorrow. ;)

Does the pump and solenoid come as one or is there a part number for solenoid.

Thanks for info ;)

Coil is not supplied with pump !!
Very reliable though! I dont normally change with pump!!
Coil is two stage ! Lifting coil and holding coil !!

No, cos when the pump jams the motor, it locks out in the end

Only when the shaft seal leaks and knackers the bearing!!

Had a few on RDB burners that chew up drive dog though !!

Dog turns on pump shaft and jams motor!!

I always replace dog with pump !!

Umh! Motor was definately Knackered, pump definately jarring new motor and solenoid appears to be stopping fuel to injector.

Will source new pump and sol tomorrow..

What was oil pressure before and after coil operated ??

Dont know Terry never checked to be honest

I am convinced that the pump is now working as when removed sol/valve and ran motor oil came through.

So think solenoid is not lifting valve from seating to allow oil to injector.

This is a very small movement aint it.

If the motor ran without the pump, how did you diagnose the motor was faulty? Did you measure the motor capacitor?

Solenoid works the other way round it closes to send full pressure to the nozzle

Could hear on resetting that the fan was jamming, stripped off fan cover and tried to turn by hand, no joy, pressed reset and tried kick starting fan would not run, removed pump still no joy

Replaced fan motor and fan started on first two attempts, then would only run if I kick started it, took off pump and fan started every time un-aided.

So dodgy pump took out first motor :?:

Stripped pump, seemed fine seemed to pump when on motor without solenoid valve attached.

Solenoid works the other way round it closes to send full pressure to the nozzle

Im used to a gas one opening

Will replace pump and valve as this is one of my good customers who will not mind the part throughing as long as his diners are warm.

Sounds as if the capacitor has dropped in value. I measure these every couple of years as it saves unnecessary callouts.

I`ll measure that when im there though dont think its that.

Convinced the pump was at fault in first and second instance, and first motor definately goosed, just had it in my workshop.

Will update post when have it working tomorrow, (he types wishfully)
Needs to be working before I jet off to Canada for Halloween.

Cheers oilman, ;)

and Terry ;)

Welldone oilman, Cap was down ;)

Anyway fitted new pump (£57) improvised with a cap on the van (6 uF instead of 4 uF) fan and burner starting and firing first time every time, customer happy its working.

Speaking with him today he said on witnessing the motor not running just humming, "thats how it starts all the time, it buzzes then click then I here the fan start". So I now think  the cap being low would,nt kick in the motor, this in turn burnt out the motor :!:

Now what took out the pump :?:

Anyway its running now, intend to fit correct cap on return from Canada.

Thanks again oilman & Terry.

PS, would you have the part number for capacitor :?: ,,,,,,,I Know Iam a cheeky sod
