Been in a similar situation about the time Part P came out. A lot of DIY work and frankly the place was a hazard, Old wired fuses and the owner would not consider a re-wire. When the property was sold the new owners asked me about the old CU and asked about changing it. The local supply company agreed to me pulling the main fuse and the overall general official line was that while it was not strictly "Legal" the replacement of wire with MCB and addition of RCDs had made the situation much safer and that would cover me should there be any problems.
