Hi there all.
Hopefully, this is a pretty simple one… I am renewing the floorboards in my dining room. I will varnish them after and that will be the finished floor. The boards are approx 3 meters long, by 1200mm across, and 21mm deep. I am wondering what screws to use. A mate has suggested...

Hi. Thanks for the reply. That's good to know.
When I say 'spots', I really mean any of the hallogen type lights that sit flush with the ceiling. What is the name of the type of the light in the photo? Would that be able to sit in the void between the joists?
Thanks again for your help...
Hi All,
I want to put spot lights in my kitchen. I understand these need a certain amount of clearance, and normally an artificial ceiling is put up to house the spots. Problem is, I’m not to keen on lowering the ceiling.
Is there anyway of having spots without lowering the ceiling...
Thanks Eaton.
I know I risk sounding stupid, but we've seen rats before and I'm worried they may go for plastic pipes under the floorboards. Do you think this is a risk?
I've heard that Ideal's previous model was a disaster. The problem is the depth (as it is going in a kitchen wall...
Hi all.
I'm in a 3 bed terraced and need to replace my boiler and change the radiators. I have 3 radiators downstairs (living room, dining room, and hallway) and 4 upstairs (3 bedrooms and towel rail in the bathroom). I've been reccomended a plumber who has quoted me £3,100 to replace the...
Thanks for the tip.
Is the brace / baton absolutely necessary – providing I plum carefully? I ask because the studs that I will attach the new lining to are perfectly straight themselves…
Do you have any advice on the screwing / pilot holes?
Cheers,
Chris
Hi all.
One of my door frames upstairs was knackered, so I have decided to replace it. After taking off the old frame, I can see it was previously nailed to wooden studs. I’ve made the new lining myself, and tomorrow am going to attempt to screw it to the existing studs. From past posts on...
Hi Muffking. Did you have any luck finding those photos? I'm hopefully having the room plastered next week, so need to get moving on concealing the wires. If you could send them over I would be really grateful. Rgds, Chris
Hi all.
I am going to drain my heating system (a combi) this morning so I can remove all of my radiators in preparation for the plasterers. I have already removed a couple of the radiators upstairs - and so have obviously closed the valves that were connecting these radiators in order to do...
Hi all. I can put my hands to most basic things DIY, but am terrible at anything plumbing related. I have moved into an old victorian property, and the radiators don't look in the best shape. I am currently trying to remove a radiator so I can strip the wall behind, but I am having some...

what do you mean by:
"I would do as john says but screw and/or nail either side of the crack beforehand or it will just blow again."
Would you be able to explain what you mean a little more?
You just put a nail into the ceiling either side of the crack?
Thanks,
Chris
Hi all. I have recently moved into a new property and after stripping the wallpaper in the living room have noticed that the plaster isn't in the best shape. I am going to have them skimmed. Would I need to remove the dado rail and skirting board before the plasterer is able to skim the walls...
