    front dormer/complete re-model

Yes I realise that would definitely be the case if my house was the same as the others in the street, I wouldn't waste your time asking in that case. What I would be hoping for is that, based on the fact that it is nothing like the rest of the houses on the street to start with (apart from its...

    front dormer/complete re-model

Agreed I don't like the look of them myself, they always look like an afterthought. Which is why I am thinking of what effectively would look like a new, different house at the front, as if someone had knocked down my not-very-nice-looking 50s house and replaced it with something ultra-modern...

    front dormer/complete re-model

Hi all, a question about front alterations/extension of our house, anyone knows whether this scheme will fly with the planners? We live in an unremarkable late Victorian terraced street in south London, but our house (as well as one next door) is 50s infill from bomb damage. No redeeming...

Large Steel I Beam - Drilling for a waste pipe?

Builders have just done the same thing in our loft conversion, using a hole saw, 5-min job. I can't see how it would make any appreciable difference to the strength of the beam, many steels are constructed that way anyhow.

minimum roof pitch under permitted development

Thanks for that. OK so you are basically saying that if I use a flat roof material (yes zinc would be nice actually) then I can have whatever pitch I want? I will go back to the guy doing the plans and see what he thinks.

minimum roof pitch under permitted development

Hi all I am building an extension to the rear of my house under permitted development, so 3m deep. To maximise the height of the bifold doors I want to minimise the pitch of the roof (it is going to be mainly glazed anyhow, prob 80% assuming my SAP calculation comes back OK). The...

    chrome rad to satin finish

Hi all not sure if this goes in heating or decorating, but... I bought a rather nice chrome rad for our lounge, but it gives out virtually no heat. Now I know this as I'm a physics graduate (shiny objects have very low emissivity), but I was trying to ignore it as the chrome one looked...

CH won't start (Worcester 28i RSF combi)

Whoever designed that knob is going to get a kick in the nuts from me. Many thanks gasguru :) WB helpline? Yeah right. When we moved in a couple of weeks back I had rearranged some electrics in the kitchen (including the boiler spur). The boiler stopped working, and I was convinced I had done...

where to buy new radiators ??

Hi, I've just bought some column rads for bedrooms from here: http://www.homesupply.co.uk/home-of-ultra-designer-radiators=1277-prod.html they are super-cheap compared to elsewhere, really good for saving space on a wall, look nice too. I've found that you need to shop around on websites...

CH won't start (Worcester 28i RSF combi)

Hi all I have a problem with CH on my Worcester 28i RSF combi (an old-ish model, discontinued 2005). DHW is fine. We have just moved into the house, I drained the system to move and add rads, then filled with flush stuff, and bled rads. I can't get the CH to come on. It won't kick off the...
