Reason I ask is that I need the hex (allen) key for the screw which holds the blade on.

Apparently, Bosch own Qualcast so I e-mailed them. They got back to me and said Qualcast is now owned by ArgosHomebase. Tried them - no joy. Tried a web search but cannot find anywhere who still does spares/parts for them.

Anyone got one?

But if you get a cheap metric set of keys in the market (or a lend of a set), it should have the size you need. Tap directly on the screw with a hammer first, then tap the key into a cleaned out hole. Small bit of turning force and keep tapping the allen key in to the screw. But it will be tight .............

Thanks mursal but I have quite a few allen keys including a set but none of them fits - the largest is too small. None of my hex ends on my socket set are big enough either. The fitting is quite big.

As its a Briggs engine, (USA) its likely to be A/F size - but I have seen metric too!
Common sizes are 7/16" or 8mm.
Use a socket drive if you can - they can be a swine if the head gets chewed!

Okay people, Made a 'cast' of the hex socket using blu-tac then measured it with digital calipers. The calipers show 8.63mm or 11/32 of an inch. Okay so far BUT cannot source these sizes anywhere. Anyone got any ideas? Would an 8mm fit? Is 5/16ths of an inch close (assuming 11/32 is close to 5/16ths)

Any help greatly appreciated.

8mm or 5/16" allens are both available, and truthfully it could be either.....I'd go for an 8mm size, with a 3/8" drive socket.
Bash the socket home before trying to turn.....they aren't that tight, usually, and its a conventional right hand thread!
John :)

Thanks again. Will need to buy an 8mm as have allen key/hex sets but nothing at 8mm. Plenty smaller and a few larger. B**ger...

Never though of the Blue-Tac ....................

UPDATE

Thanks for all your help chaps. Bought a cheapish set of keys from Screwfix which had both metrics and imperials.

After a bit of persuasion with a hammer and an adjustable, the 8mm worked!!

Happy days - blade and housings are off BUT....

Now found I need to remove 3 bolts which are just slightly bigger than my largest socket spanner...ARGHH!!

Have posted a new thread in TOOLS and MATERIALS to get some advice on the new issue.

Thanks again to everyone.

That's good to hear ................
E-Bay for a cheap set of spanners, or if the postage is to high, local market or motor factor.
