I need help on how to undo a mistake I made. I bought a new house where the previous owner had installed new windows in the bedrooms. The windows slide up to open. Two of the windows have their built in stoppers in the open position. It's the security feature that allows someone to open the windows only up to about four inches. I wanted to open the windows higher. So I pushed the stoppers in and then, I pushed the windows up without making sure that the stoppers weren't going to pop back out. Well, they did pop back out and now they are both jammed and I can't close the windows. Can any suggest what I can do to fix the problem.

Thanks, Marge

Have you hunted around for the key that releases them Marge? They have done what they are supposed to do, unfortunately.
John :)

Post some photos and somebody will recognise them. There may be a standard key.

I think you are describing "sash stoppers"

I am including a photo of the stopper. Both sides of the stoppers are activated.

is it a plastic window? you could email your pic to http://www.handlesandhinges.co.uk/window-locks-for-upvc/ who may recognise it.

do your neighbours have the same kind?

I don't see any key mechanism, sadly. I wonder if it would move if you pressed the sash upwards to take the weight?

Is there any sign of a button on the top ledge of the sash? No sign of a makers name that I can see.

Could be a difficult one for us, Marge.....you being in the sunny USA and we in sunnier Blighty and all that!
John :)
