Electric clock

Clock style analogue displays were found to be much easier to read than the digital ones that were being introduced to the cockpits. The direction of change in value was much easier to see and evaluate on a clock face display. If "time" is running backwards the plane is going down "we crash at midnight" when both big hand and little hand are on 12. ( aka zero )

Always fancied one of those nixie tube clocks myself. But a "bare bones" job on a nice traditional alloy chassis, with the tubes that have the display on the side. :)
Bedside clock is digital, with big numbers and light. Handy for seeing in the dark without specs.
Otherwise I prefer analogue displays for anything that needs "at a glance" reading. Clocks generally, speedo, fuel and temp in car. Digital is OK where you're looking for a "one off" reading, as with a multimeter.

Interesting you mention cars.

Because there's a well known term "miles on the clock". And the phrase "putting the clock back".

And its about the only instrument which has always been digital :D

I have an American "Veeder" revolution counter here that has a digital display. It counts revolutions, not rpm. Small, nickel plated. Patented 1907.

Some years ago I acquired a large amount of test equipment off eBay, in a deal so mind-bogglingy good and lucky that I still feel sorry for the seller.

One item was a DVM using nixie tubes.

One day.....

That's more or less the very thing I had in mind! Years ago there were great deals to be had on eBay, and it was great fun selling too. Pity those days have gone.

No - it was collect, but I combined it with a business trip so it didn't cost me much.
