Valiant 618 and VRT 350f help!

ok so we are currently having our boiler replaced with a new 618 system boiler plus unvented tank and the wireless stat 350f for control.

Question is:

Regarding immersion, 3 port valve and tank stat is the only feed I need between the boiler and wiring box a 4 core to carry SL, PL, N and E.

And should the SL be straight from the boiler and the L, N and E be from the 3A switched spur feeding the boiler supply?

All the rest is wired via the wiring box?

All slightly confusing valliant manual isn't very exhaustive re pin connections etc and trying to work it out.

Hi Paul, are you an user or an installer?

To use VRT350 or VRT350F on S plan for unvented system, you also need a VR 66 control centre.

Hi Herts.

Brother in law doing the install re plumbing etc. I'm doing the wiring or at least running the cables and dad will connect and sign off.

Planned to use 350f on y plan. I was told that the 350f did the thermostat and control by merchant. Was he talking rubbish or is the vr66 not needed on y plan.

An un-vented system should normally be an S plan.

Either S or Y plan, as you are using e-bus, by VRT350F, you have to use VR66.

Return and forget VRT350, do a traditional S plan instead.

Thanks pal for the advice. Re return the 350f are you saying get the vr66 and wired version in regards the s plan?

VRT350F + VR66 for e-bus connected to boiler.

Or

Traditional S plan, ie, programmer, room stat, juction box.

Hmmnn confused now ha ha

Thanks for your help. Needs a full rewire anyway and existing controls were extremely old. Prob get the vr66 as misses likes the look of this futuristic controller haha. I gather the vr66 goes in the airing cupboard in place of the traditional wiring box.

The wiring instructions come with the VR66, you can also download them from the Vaillant website. Usually the VR66 goes in the airing cupboard, the two 2 port valves wire to it. It needs its own 230V feed, a 2 core for the ebus to the boiler (and the VRT350F receiver). I would advise using a VR10 sensor for the UV cylinder too, it's a much better way to monitor the cylinder temperature. The boiler doesn't need a switched live from the controls, it's all done via the ebus.

You beat me to it. I was going to ask about the vr10 instead of the cylinder stat.

The tank is a gledhill 210 indirect. Will it contain the necessary safety features to use it with the the vr10?

VR10 is from Vaillant for Vaillant own cylinders. It is like NTC inside a boiler to control cylinder setting temperature precisely.

If you seach Google you will know its looking. Generally you need an extra pocket to inside the cylinder for that, so you can take existing gledhill cylinder stat out to give way to VR10. Having said that, Gledhill existing stat has another level safety cut off, so it is still advised not using VR10 sensor in your case.

The vr10 ntc option is only approved (safety wise) with a vaillant cylinder, any other and you need to use the cylinder stat that comes with it with the additional over heat cut outs. And remember it must be s-plan

In the past I have left the original cylinder stat/OH combination in place and put the VR10 in the immersion heater pocket on a non-Vaillant UV cylinder. Wire the cylinder valve live feed from the VR66 through these stats and it will then still comply. You can then set the original stat to 75C and the VR470 to 55-60C. OH protection as required by G3 is technically still there, but with my engineering head on unnecessary as its already provided by the VR66 interlock and the boiler OH protection. Handy if the VR10 sensor falls out though...

Ok so two questions...

1. I gather I lose the ability for immersion as now using that pocket

2. Will I be wiring to vr66 for cylinder stat AND NTC?
