Hi, Just wanted to have a moan about some of our disasters caused by Tradesmen which we had to get put right. Anyway, some of you may even find these funny; 1. Flooring laid the wrong way round, ended up with a join. 2) Plastering had more ripples than Leigh-on-sea ( on three different occasions, three different plasterers (or so they said) 3) Solid Oak Architraves secured with faulty nail gun - both sets of frames left with about 40 nail heads showing. 4) Loft ladders left on landing - workman unable to secure to loft hatch (because it was good solid wood !) 5)
Kitchen Fitter decided to put cupboards in first - then try to set built-under oven in - should have been other way round. Had to sell oven and ended up with worktop cut out to accomodate a free standing cooker. These are not all of our disasters. I will not use anyone from Rated People and I am thinking of moving into a Caravan - then I won't ever need another Tradesman - Yipee!

Few years back I had the pleasure of looking at a job; multi finish straight onto wallpaper. Yes. Wallpaper.

Customer said "I had this done last week, and it's all falling off. Can you fix it?" :/

I reckon I wouldn't have been paying any of those "tradesmen" until the job was done to my satisfaction. I wouldn't have been using any of the recommendation sites either.
Easy to be clever after the event though!

That's a lot of bad luck!! It's hard to know who to trust with your home...
Its not hard to know who to trust as i look at him every day in the mirror -------ME, thats why this is a DIY forum. For me i gleam the tech from here and then do it myself ---- ok the long way the hard way but MY WAY.

After buying our supposedly "finished" place, I now find myself in a position where I have no money to spare and 10 new jobs that needed doing every day because of poor craftmanship by the previous owner who was a builder.
@Crystalclear our place is blessed with plaster over wallpaper as well!
