Hi,

I had a bit of a bump with a blue Peugeot yesterday and was wondering if anyone would know what the best diy solution to repairing the paint damage to my car. I have had a look online and seen Chipex but the results didn't look great on YouTube videos. The scratches aren't that bad and there is no dents around the area damaged.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks

You could try som T-Cut (or similar) and see how it looks then. Was the thing you hit black? If so, a lot of those marks might polish out with T-Cut. If not, they could be the plastic that the bumper is made of (in which case, the only option is to paint). You've very little to lose by trying the T-Cut!

Thanks for your reply. It was a blue bumper which hit me, but I think the really nlack marks are the bumper itself. How much do you think a paint job would be for the damage in the photos?

If the black scratches are your plastic bumper - and not the offending vehicles paint - then consider a 'smart' repair......around the £100 mark, depending on whats needed in the way of filling.

Yes, that's a good idea. Google "SMART". Can't remember what it stands for - Small Area (something) Repair (something). There are bound to be mobile firms in your area. "Chips Away" is a common nationwide one, I think. At a proper bodyshop with a paint oven, I'd guess at about £200. At least it's not a metallic!

As body shops seem to mostly deal in insurance work ( and realistic prices go out of the window) for stuff like this I pay cash, and stress that insurers aren't involved.
It works for me - but my vehicles are newish and I want to keep them that way - so paint repairs are a no - no now.
If the finish was cellulose though, I'd have a bash!

Chips away are too expensive. Try CarMedic. They will sort that no bother and probably for under £150.
