Hey guys,

Was asking over on the Painting forum how this type of wall could be tackled. I've ordered some liquid paint remover to see how I get on but in failing that I've been advised walls like this must be plastered as a skim wouldn't hold.

Is this true?

As long as the paint isn't flaky or loose you can skim over the walls. A little preparation and a couple of coats of PVA before skimming (let first coat dry then skim when second coat is tacky). A good plasterer would know how to do this for you....

Thanks mate. I am going to try some paint remover today and if that doesn't work I'll try around for another plasterer.

As above.

Presuming that there is no paper left on the wall then wash it down or sand it to remove any wallpaper paste residue then as above.

Dont go using any kind of paint remover - you might be creating difficulties for yourself and any future plasterer.
