Hi
We have just had our bathroom tiled.
However I came to look halfway through and the adhesive is 2-3cm (20-30mm) thick and in large blobs.
I don't know much about tiling but this doesn't seem right.
My builder says he has done this to even out the walls and floor
Please can someone help - what should I tell my builder? Are there any industry guidelines on adhesive thickness that I can show him?
And what can be done to salvage my tiles?
Thanks

Large blobs are ideal for outdoor paving stones! :/ but even then, pro's will not agree to this technique, which adds to 'rocking' later on.

large blobs with floor tiling are primarily fast jobs; 'tilers' who have other jobs to complete in that week.
The correct way is for the adhesive to be troweled on covering the entire area.

"Large blobs" create weak points on the floor tiles, and in worse case situations, will lead to cracks and rocking later on in a year or so, or even earlier depending on how large teh blobs are.

Don't be shy to breathe down his neck; be a gentleman, but it's your house, and you have standards you'll be paying him to reach. Right?

If he is taking you for a ride, then stop the job, if he won't listen to you. It's simple as that! Tell him you'll call him back after you get a second opinion. Be smart. If you feel intimidated get a mate to come down and listen in.

You'll be better off in the long run, if you pay a professional tiler, whose known in your area.

thank you -so does the fact it is thick not matter?
is the problem more that it is blob-like
really appreciate your help.
Can the tiles be re-used or will they have to go in the bin?!
