Hello,

My neighbour has run a mains cable for a floodlight this cable is fixed to her side of my garage wall its also i believe a party wall, if its a party wall should she not ask permission first ?

How do i find out if this floodlight installation complys with part p ? she has an asbo so we don't talk to each other !

I wouldn't encourage arguments between neighbours, but having said that, don't be intimidated; if you feel the Law has been breached and you believe you're affected, without question be a gentleman, but don't give in to people pretending to be lawless.

'in a dog fight, it's not the size of the dog, but the size of fight in the dog that counts'

The PW Act does not apply to fixing cable.

If its a party wall, then ownership is shared and she can fix what she likes and does not need your permission.

If the wall is owned by solely by you, then the fixing is a trespass under common law.

Whether the installation conforms to Part P or not is of no concern to you as a third party, unless you have legal interest in the land or the installation.

Well, it concerns you if you drill through the wall and hit it!

What has that got to do with it being notified to the council?

And why would the OP hit a cable which he knows is there?

Dear " Woody " Any electrical work carried out in the the garden is " Notifiable Work " under part P Regulations. I do Not know EXACTLY where this cable is fixed to the other side of my garage wall.

Dear Jaguar
Its not notifiable if carried out by a competent person under a registered scheme.

In addition, a third party (ie you) have no business or legal entitlement to know what any other person does on their property, or what regulations they apply or do not apply for.

Are you going to stitch drill horizontally until you do?

That's one way.
The other way is to stick his head over the fence.
Another way is to hire a CAT scanner.
Or better still, not drill straight through the whole wall.
