Thanks it does look similar and I've just removed a load of rubble n soil from underneath....

Good choice.

Have a look around at the vents and see if they're free from soil obstruction. Good ventilation most definitely helps.

Will do but there are no vents in the hall. Looks like I will have to introduce some ventilation some how...

I think what you can see under your floor is mineral (as Ree suggested) rather than animal or vegetable.

The subsequent little furry growths (pic in my thread above) are totally different in character.

Ok thanks drpepe.. My house layout is like yours. Only not kitchen diner has a wall to separate kitchen from dinnng room. This dinning room or what we call our back room suffered dry rot on the floor joist, mainly kitchen and external wall side. The whole corner of the floor fell through.... Apparently this was because the 2 air bricks became blocked due to cavity wall insulation dropping down.. Also it was full or soil and ruble. No air bricks in kitchen but this rot penetrative to the kitchen skirting board.

I also have no air bricks in the hall.. Maybe 1 or 2 in lounge will have to check. Although the parting wall Hall to lounge does have air gaps at the bottom all the way along.

The Kitchen looks like it's a solid floor too. I will be pulling that side of the hall up tomorrow, it's this side with the white fungi stuff.. I dread to think what I will find under here.. This is the external wall side.

The hall is slowly getting better after i installed an airbrick through the doorstep, and lowered the block paving from the 3 air bricks in the lounge front wall.

Digging all the damp rubble out probably helped too - or at least it helped identify if there was rot (luckily none in my house).

Hmmm interesting you should mention block paving... We only started noticing these problems after it was installed. I have been suspecting if for a while now... Can the moisture travel up the sand Base substrate and block paving blocks onto the house bricks... The whole house is now surround by block paving. Front side and back.. It's no higher that the original flags were only difference is the thick sand Base.

It may well be... I've uncovered a whole load of problems on this side of the hall..

1. Shoddy workmanship with the floor joists.
2. Lots of soil and rubble
3. Some rotten joist ends.
4. Found a blocked off air brick, now not blocked off but is at beam height.. I was thinking one of these may help.

Here's a few pics of what I've found this side.

I was thinking cement in gaps in wall then bolt a beam to the back wall to attach the joists.. Or i could lay the beam on bricks like the rest of the floor?

OP,

Perhaps you should slow down, and take advice and suggestions. You are doing work that you do not know how to do, and it could end up costing you. Previous work has obviously been poorly done, maybe by a Builder or DIY'er who didn't understand remedial work?

Unless you do this kind of thing thoroughly - then leaving one aspect unattended to could later start a fungal infection off again.

FWIW: I could take you thro it but only if you wish to stay the course of answering lots of questions and providing pics etc?

Thanks I would appreciate all advice(y)

Where do I start:(

I don't mind posting pics..or answering questions..

Im all ears
