Hello,

I'm looking at decorating my kitchen and the ceiling looks to have artex on. It's only a 1 or 2mm pattern to it. I've attached some photos. Firstly is this artex? Before when I've noticed artex it's been a deeper pattern. IMG_2906.JPG IMG_2907.JPG

The house was built in 1974 so I'm assuming if it's artexed it's potentially likely to contain asbestos. Would the best way to deal with this be getting it re-plaster? If so I think I'd need to get someone in as I shouldn't imagine my first attempt at plastering will look great. Also will new plaster bond to a painted ceiling ok?

Have people ever tired getting a sample tested? If so it is financial viable compared to getting a ceiling plastered? By the look of the depth of I think it could be sanded down but only if I knew I wasn't risking it with potential asbestos.

Thanks,
Paul

It looks like texture paint to me. The ceiling looks a bit ropey, so I'd board over it if I were you.

Thanks Joe-09. I'd not thought of that but it does look like that. I'll have a bit of an investigate!
