But, also the Los Angeles Times reports :-
"...Palmer’s hunting practices have come under scrutiny in the past. In 2008, he pleaded guilty to one count of making material false statements in relation to a poaching case in Wisconsin. He was sentenced to one year probation, a $2,938 fine and was forced to forfeit the black bear remains to the government..."

Got history then !

It would be a far more exciting hunt for him to re-visit Africa with his bow and arrow and kill a few Boko Haram animals. I'd happily start a whip round for him.

What is it with these Americans? It seems to be in their mindset to shoot things: people, animals, anything that moves.
Perhaps they think they still live in the Wild West.

I hope he is extradited to face the music on this. Legal or illegal, why people want to do this for fun is beyond me. They must have some serious insecurity issues.

I've never understood how this can be 'sport'. Tell you what, you stand still, with no weapons, and I'll try my best to shoot you dead with a gun. That sounds fair doesn't it? Maybe they should equal the odds, let the hunter use his bare hands and see who wins, Mr. Lion or Mr Hunter.

Strap the bar steward into his own dentist chair and slowly pull all his teeth out without anaesthetic.

It must be so simple to stand 30 or 40 yards away from an animal and shoot it. Would they try it if the animal could shoot back?

There is Just not enough emphasis on this story in the press; I'm wondering... What would the media would say if he was shooting Bald 'American' Eagles? Hummm.

Anyone who hunts and shoots defenceless animals for so called sport has a serious mental problem, whether it's the mighty lion or a rabbit. It must make them feel real macho blowing an animal's brains out for no reason. Apparently he is very sorry because he wasn't aware that it was 'Cecil' but the name doesn't matter, he would have killed it anyway.

The bloke is a c***

Yes, root canal. From personal experience - excruciating. Still nothing to the pain that I would like to inflict the vermin that shot the lion.

If the tnuc is back in the US though, what are the chances of him going / getting sent back, to face justice?
Pretty low, I'd guess.
Certainly lower than if it was the other way around.

there is a suggestion on the reason for his compulsion on here

I don't suppose he will be extradited, though. US is very reluctant to let its citizens face justice from any untrustworthy foreign court.

I was in Italy one year when a US Marine pilot disobeyed orders to have the adventure of low-flying through a forbidden mountain valley, and snipped through a cablecar cable, resulting in numerous gruesome deaths, although luckily they were all Europeans so didn't matter.

He was whisked out of the country before you could say "culpable homicide" though a US military court did eventually sentence him to six months for destroying the videotape of his flight.

On the issue of rich people shooting wildlife....
I wonder what the locals would think of living near lions if they weren't bringing in 10s of thousands of pounds per shoot.

I bet that some dodgy Lords and celebrities are putting that dentist on their Christmas card lists, though:mrgreen:
