Simple question for you: I'm moving an inspection chamber out of the footprint of a new extension but what do I do with the old inspection chamber (not connected to any drains any more)? It's only 65cm deep but bang in the middle of where the new slab is going. Do I just knock the top few courses of brick off and fill the rest with hardcore and compact or is there something cunning that needs doing?

Not really no. If it is defunct and the pipes are no longer connected to the system then crack on. Fill it with bricks, blind it, compact, then stone over. Just ensure that the you knock enough masonry off the chamber so that it does not interfere with your over-site stone layer.
