[Photo] 3 Years+ Sewage Smells in the house (man hole to fill)

I just don't know what to do. :( If builders and plumbers haven't been able to figure it out. I don't know how I can. I'm just a lowly computer geek. *Key radio 1 sad music*

Honestly I've got nothing better to do this weekend other than dig up my house with a few beers. Think I'm going to do it. I can't spend £1200 to get it lined when I can get off my ass and make a mess of it myself. Ha.

But if it's getting in there by magic (as you seem happy to believe) you may dig it all up for no gain.

Tom from another post (referenced earlier) has had all the same issues. He said that pipe lining made no difference.

Tom-from-the-other-thread found a massive rat's nest inside a wall.

What are your floors made from?

Have you done a smoke test yet?

The idea of getting lots of beer and digging into a concrete floor sounds seriously unwise.

I PM'd Tom and he was very helpful. He still has the same issues even after the nest was cleared away.

I'm going to buy some smoke pellets. I've also noticed a small wet patch on the ceiling! I had a look and there is a soil pipe in the roof space with a very slight drip! Maybe on a windy day air is coming in there and getting into the room!!?? It's in the loft space above the hall. Smoke test might reveal an issue there...

Floors are all concrete.

Does this pipe in the roof come from a loo or is it a vent?

Smoke test didn't reveal anything. I've fixed the soil pipe in the roof though. Use a bit of chain oil to lube the joints on. Maybe I'll give it a few weeks and see if that's helped. If the old one leaked, smells could have been coming in there.

HUGE thanks too all of you for all your advice and help. This is a fantastic community and I very much appreciate you all sparing some time for your advice. Cut the lawn and mow the hedge now... :) (something like that anyway)

Gosh. And here was me thinking it was 'magic' all along.
