Miele T8722 Tumble Dryer Not Heating Up...

My suggestion is to see if the "timed drying warm air" cycle works to determine if it will heat.

I have had a dryer in the garage for many years now and it has not given any problems.

I have tried the "Timed drying warm air" option on the default 15 minutes, but it never gets warm...

Ok, electronic unit arrived and installed. No difference!(

When I try the "timed drying warm air", it craps out after a couple of minutes and the "cooling down" light flashed and it beeps constantly...

Yes you will have 2 sensors, one as you say in the element assy. & if you read further on in that post it tells you the other is at the top front of the machine. The one in the air channel will be for condensing driers I would think. The sensor is shown in the part master link I posted for you a while back item number 33. While you are there have a look at the moisture sensor (carbon brushes)which is on top of the drum in a similar area & connected to a small pcb & earth.
I have been giving this a lot of thought & I am still puzzled why it appeared to work once during your testing so it does seem to be a sensor not supplying the correct information to the control boards. Either faulty sensor or poor connection or broken wire. If you resistance check this latest sensor (another NTC type) & look for loose or broken wires, I'm not sure what else you can do yourself. It would seem a waste to continue just throwing parts at it.

I couldn't get access to the front sensor - was struggling getting the front and side panels off, so consider me officially giving up. I bought Miele specifically because I was in the Army and I remember the Miele washing machine and tumble dryer running pretty much 24/7 for 3 years! I have a Miele dishwasher and washing machine too and my faith in them all has gone!

Back to the drawing board! Just rang Currys to bag there £119 all-in repair, but surprise surprise, they don't fix Miele. Parts are obviously too expensive. What a disaster this is turning out to be. Looks like my initial fear of a bill north of £200 is looking more and more likely...

Soooo, there's been a development!

Not one to give in easily, I managed to get the front panel off after watching a few generic YouTube videos. And looky what I found on the back of the control panel!?!?

I'm not even sure what that is! It looks like a slug or something! Anyway, I tried cleaning it up with some alcohol but it still doesn't work, so I guess it's very possible that board has shorted out? Does that sound like a reasonable assumption? and would that prevent the dryer from heating up?

Well it certainly hasn't done the slug any good. You did ask if it did them any good being in a garage (rodents nesting etc) well now you have your answer. The tracks certainly look damaged, but it could be just the varnish insulation, the problem is you can't tell just by looking if any of the components are damaged. what is on the other side of the board where the slug is welded to. Can't you get access to the sensor either through the top or behind the control panel now you have it off?

To be honest, once I discovered the frazzled slug, I forgot all about the second sensor. It's surely too much of a coincidence NOT to be causing the problem.

There is nothing on the other side, although the contacts and solder points appear to be a little corroded on both sides. I tried cleaning it again with Fosbro, but still no joy. It certainly looks like more than just varnish damage.

New control panel is an outrageous £222.41 (and even that is from a third party, and not direct from Miele themselves - I dread to think what they would charge) but the good news is I've managed to find the only one on eBay and I had an offer accepted of £50.

My faith in Miele will be somewhat restored if it turns out to be the work of a slimy little slug!

I will keep you posted...

Problem solved! Fitted the control panel and it now works again. I am soooooo happy! My faith in Miele is well and truly restored. I now have a valid reason to stamp on slugs (just kidding!))

Chuffed!!!

Well done, perseverance pays as they say. Personally I find sprinkling them with salt is the most satisfying.
