Cilla Black has died.......

I liked her, sensed she was a genuinely good person at heart, one of the few from that generation

Not sure I like any show business types, or rather their image. She was probably nice, and I'd only wish her well. Sad she was so young, 72, with her wealth you'd think she could have access to good food, good health care, nice holidays, pity she couldn't enjoy her retirement. But to keel over at home is better than spending your last years a dribbling urine sodden mentally addled wreck.

If it hadn't been for the Beatles you'd never have heard of her. Or Jimmy Tarbrush.

I have never been a big fan of Cilla although I think some of her early stuff was quite good, but as I have said when other well known people have died, it's a bit strange to think they have gone when you have known of them most of your life growing up.

I hope you're not being dribbling urine sodden mentally addled wreckist.

Oh dear, I guess that is me done for then, hauled off to the beak, where I will be sentenced for bigotry. Okay, I renounce me old ways, yes we should even allow these people to become politicians. Ah, looks like they have beaten me to it ...

She was probably nice

Actually, I'm not convinced she was.

Any evidence for that? At least being a woman it is unlikely we will now hear a flood of stories about kiddie fiddling, unlike many famous male stars.

It was interesting to hear stories about her on the radio. Apparently she failed one audition because she was so nervous, and another time she bombed when singing, ran off to the loo to cry, and a promoter waited outside to give here a job. She refused, but he booked the venue anyway. I'm sorry to see her go so young, if only because another star from my childhood has popped her clogs, reminding me of my age.

Just based on various news articles I have read about her over the years which suggest that the down to earth 'alright chuck' persona was completely fake (as was her lingering accent). Many interviewers have described her as a demanding diva, having people removed from tables in restaurants because she wanted to sit there etc, etc.
The recent series played by Sheridan Smith suggested that she treated her 'Bobby' quite badly and although it was a dramatization, she agreed to the programme and even said that it was very true to life.

I have nothing against her personally and saw her as a true entertainer even though she wasn't really my cup of tea. But yes, it is sad when these people whom you have known for so long, suddenly go. It does remind you that you are also approaching the clog popping age.
