Police/Border Force cuts

This is an attack on private landlords.

There are enough hoops to jump through already, and rogue landlords bypass all these safeguards anyway.

A landlord could rent to someone legally entitled to be here, whilst knowing full well it's being sublet to illegal immigrants and taking a cut on the side, the council wouldn't have a leg to stand on as it's what's on the tenancy agreement that matters.

It's a total waste of tax payers money chasing these people, I've seen the council do it. They chase after tenants and landlords with clip boards hoping they will land themselves in it, the landlords ignore the council and brief their tenants to do the same. It's unenforcable in most cases, wiley landlords will know the inns and outs and get away with it continually as they always have done.

I rent a property and will resent having to carry out this check (which may cost me money) as it's not my responsibility.

Build more houses and stop them comming over in the first place.

I heard them talking about it on the News at one radio 4.

Government spokesman was asked why the 'illegals' (my term) were not deported in which case the landlord would not have to do anything? or
In the proposed situation after the landlord had evicted the tenant, would the Council then have to house them???

Usual non-answers.

Absolute twaddle.

by there nature illegal immigrants will be low earners will tend to live several to a room often overcrowded so will need a crooked landlord bending the rules ignoring fire and other regulations for houses off multiple occupation

the genuine landlords who are likely to abide by this new hair brained law will probably never have an illegal worker with enough money to rent from them

I think this legislation is aimed at those landlords that specialise in letting houses to large numbers of illegals. As many as 30 to a house. By putting the onus on the landlord, he has to prove his innocence rather than the authorities proving his guilt.

Same with sheds with beds, the councils no-longer have to prove the landlord is housing illegals, it's for the landlord to prove that he is not.

Sounds like a useful tool to me. Maybe help get rid of some of the useless tools eh?

It sounds like you are suggesting the purpose is to prosecute landlords rather than deport the illegals.
Is it also up to the landlord to organise the deportation?

If that were the case then it would appear to me that it would be quite simple for the authorities to visit these places and sort out the tenants. and put them in a coach.

If the illegals have nowhere to live they may as well stay in Calais.

How can someone be convicted without evidence ?

No problem - landlords to take over.

That's exactly how useless, spineless and craven this and the previous government are. They create a foreign spongers' paradise here, and when they need to look tough when it all goes pear-shaped, they target people who aren't responsible for this farce, but will help carry the can as they can't fight back against HM Govt.

This type of victimisation is already happening against the lorry drivers and haulage firms. Leave aside the fact that some are possibly going bust because of the current anarchy across the channel. If the drivers, through no fault of their own, are caught with illegals in the lorries, they face fines of £2,000 per parasite.

Have we ever had more pathetic 'leaders' in this country?

It's just occurred to me:

Landlords could be issued uniforms and called "The Boarder Force".

There was an interview with a lorry driver on the radio this morning. On his way back from France, he believed he had some unwanted guests in the back so he reported it to the French authorities. They checked the lorry over and told him that there were no illegals inside. So, he proceeded through the tunnel but still thought he had passengers. He stopped and reported it again to the British authorities who did, in fact find people inside. He was fined £600 and his two bosses were fined £1,200 each.

Perhaps that's why our government are not cracking down on the problem because they are making a f***ing lot of money out of it.

But we can't hope to rely on the Frogs. If they thought they could get away with it, they'd gladly wave them all through. They're certainly good at turning a blind eye.
