Hi all, after some advice.

I had a new bathroom fitted in November last year. The decorator didn't do a good job on the cladding, he basically didn't treat the knots and just painted them. The knots are now coming through the paint everywhere.

Firstly I know I shouldn't had used wood in the bathroom but that was my error. The problem I have now is how can I treat these knots?? Can I just put a knot treatment over what's already on there then paint over that or do I have to strip them back??

Any advice for an absolute decorating novice?

Two coats of Zinsser BIN should sort it. (y)

Clean brushes out with methylated spirit.

Can I go straight over what's already there or do I need to strip all the old paint off??

Paint straight over, it's up to you either spot treat the knots or for the best result spot prime first coat and then a full coat before applying top coat. Zinsser can "flash" that is show through the top coat because it dries with a smooth sheen finish but mainly noticible on emulsion, less of a problem with gloss or finishes like satinwood. Best to try a patch first to see how it looks, BIN dries very fast so a couple of coats will not take long.

Sorry I'm a novice. So if I were to give it a quick run down then give the whole cladding with the zinsser then paint straight over that? Think he used an eggshell paint last time

Yes give it a light rub down (depends how clean the surface is whether you need to wash down with sugar soap, main thing is there is no grease or dried soap splashes) and as I said two coats are better, so just go round all the stains and BIN just them, then give it a full coat over the lot that way you have double coverage where you need it most.
