Hi,

I am installing SWA cable for a client to get power to their summer house. They have a solid strong solid metal fence which they own that is sufficiently robust.

I don't have construction experience of working with metal and am unsure what the best way to fix the SWA cleats to the fence is. One idea I have is to fix a wooden batten bolted on from neighbours side. I am wondering if there is an easier way that is secure.

Any advice be much appreciated.

Thanks

Scarlet

Here is photo of fence. I haven't bought cleats yet. Someone today suggested self tapping screws... Id appreciate comments on that as need it to be very secure.

Thanks

Stainless self tappers are fine, if the metal isn't too thick.
How about stainless nuts and screws?

Thanks, i'll have a go with self tappers then as metal isn't too thick, and avoids negotiating access from other side that bolts would need.

Rivnuts and short machine screws.

What will you do about the sharp edge of the self-trapper on the neighrbours side of the fence?

Thanks Nozzle, yes leaving sharp edges on other side would not be safe. rivnuts - i will look in to how to them. i like when a job throws up new problems to solve.
