Hey guys,

I'm currently looking for an air compressor, and come across a SIP Airmate - just wondering if they're any good compared to they're competitors...?

Yes, they are well made machines.
Obviously it depends what use you have for it, but the bigger the better. Belt drive is best, minimum 50 litre tank.
If the motor is 3hp, it will need to be hard wired.
I have a large Machine Mart compressor, 100 ltr tank, 3hp, 14.5 cfm and it drives windy tools reasonably well. I only wish it could handle larger
diameter air hose!
John :)

That's great to hear, thanks!

This is 100L, 3hp belt driven.

Air displacement 13.0CFM

Free air delivery 7.8 CFM

Going to be used in my garage to restore an old mini, then probably another! Using various air tools, plasma cutter etc.

Cheers!

Why can't it handle larger hose? Surely you just need appropriate couplings etc.
I've had about 8 years useful service from an Aldi 25l compressor

My own compressor has two identical 1/4BSP outlets, and the largest air hose they can comfortably handle is 10mm internal diameter.
This is usually ok for a 1/2" air gun (with a short hose) but if I use a longer hose, or a 3/4" inch gun everything struggles.
A modification would involve rebushing the outlets themselves or maybe joining the two together.
Maybe I'll get round to it one day!

Interested to hear how the restorations go!
If you use a needle rust descaler (brilliant bit of kit) the receiver tank empties like there was no tomorrow.
John :)
