Hello,

My stereo switches on fine and will start playing music, but the power always cuts out suddenly after a few minutes.

This started happening a while ago but it seemed to get a lot better when I bought a new adapter plug for it. (It has a European plug so it comes with a Euro to UK adapter). But now a few months later it has started happening again. Does anyone have any clues as to why this is happening?

This is the stereo

These are the speakers I have attached to it.

Many Thanks

If the images from the web are correct then the rear of the COEL has a standard figure of 8 mains cable socket. So there's really no need to mess about with euro to UK adapter plugs. Just buy a UK figure of 8 power lead and use that.

There's not really enough info in your post to start to make a diagnosis, but as a general rule of thumb I see issues with cutting out mostly caused by poor speaker wire termination. It's often a strand or two of stray wire touching between the positive (red) and negative (black) terminals either on the back of the main unit or one of the speakers. The system will run fine at zero or very low volume settings, but when the sound level is increased then it switches off or goes in to protection mode.

In your case though you've suggested that fiddling around with different mains plug adapters has helped. I wonder then if you have a faulty wall socket or simply loose wiring in the wall socket terminals. Perhaps you should start there and eliminate those things as possibilities before going any further with trouble-shooting. Report back once you have looked at the wall socket and changed to a proper UK mains lead.

Thanks Lucid. I'll buy a UK figure 8 wire and check the cables at the back. Plus I'll investigate the wall socket. Cheers
