Hi.i have sony camcorder tr 3100 hi8.recently i was looking how to transfer hi 8 into digital .it has phono rca connection with s vhs as well.i noticed it has lanc marked mini jack connection.what is that for.is it for remote control only or it has other functions as well.i mean can i use this connection to convert to digital format by plugging into pc directly.
Any help most welcome thanks.

LANC is just remote control only.

Hi8 is an analogue video format. To convert it to something digital then it's the recorder or computer that will do the conversion. Ideally you should use the S-video connection for picture as this will give the best source signal. If you're going to use a PC capture card then make sure it has an S-video input.
 
Thanks.which is best external analoge to digital converter device on market.ie like pinnical dazzle but it has a lot of mix reviews.
 
"the best" is a very subjective term. Much depends on the PC you plan to use it with, whether you're happy with some image compression or if you must have lossless capturing, and the formats that your editing software can handle. Last but not least is budget. Video capture devices range in price from under £15 to well over £1000. You're probably better off working out your priorities and budget and then working from there to find the best solution for you.

Hi.thanks for reply.my budget is £ 100 to 130.i have one of my family member using pinnical dazzle device with software.it has both rca and svhs and digital out puts.problem is it has only one licence.there are currently two dazzle products.one is pinnicle and other is dvc 100.do not know which is latest.which is better one.or if i buy my own software can i use the dazzle converter which my family is using.
