Hi, my brother in law has just recently taken on a small shop and I am doing the redecorating to get parts of the shop usable in stages, the shop is in two parts 8mx7m and 8mx12m.
Part of the shop that is not currently being used has a security alarm fitted, the alarm is powered but not set/activated. We may be able to get the last code used by the previous business but no guarantee.
I’m after a recommended procedure of how to disable / disconnect the alarm without accidentally calling the police or annoying people by setting the off the alarm, we may want to re-commission it at a later stage so no just cutting the cables.
I want to disconnect it because it’s not being used, the security sensors are not all fitted any more, and the power to that part of the shop will be turned off for extended periods while we sort out the rats nest of unlabeled cabling and redecorate.
I don’t know the modal of make of the system but I noted the following system elements:
Auto dialer above the main control box, phone line is believed not to be active?
Bell unit outside, must have a battery in it as it went off when I turned off the mains power momentarily, nothing is labeled in the consumer unit.
Main control unit, doesn’t have battery (or is flat) hence alarm sounding when mains power was turned off.
For a procedure I was thinking:
Find & disconnect phone line from auto dialer.
Remove/disconnect battery from bell unit outside.
Remove/disconnect battery from control unit if it has one.
Isolate control unit from the mains.
Hope the alarm doesn’t go off.
Thanks for your assistance.
Trevor
