Hi all!

I am looking to install swing gates to my driveway which is the only entrance to my premises. I would like to install electric gates and have been looking at the various options & actuators. However I would also like the ability to open them manually from the street for callers / postman etc. Now I know this can be done with a push-button or keypad etc - but the kids will play havoc with this! I wondered if there was any product that can be opened and pushed manually by way of say a traditional latch - overriding the automated system. I had thought of installing some form of microswitch to the latch as one messy solution.

I'm probably asking for the impossible :D

Thanks!

Hang the gates using Rising Butt hinges so that they swing closed by themselves due to the hinges. Then arrange for the actuator to only push them open but NOT pull them closed.

There are stringent regulations about mechanically operated gates. These are there to reduce the risk of injury or death due to gates crushing people.

Thanks:)

The rising butt hinges are an interesting idea. There are actuators that can be 'pushed' without being manually released from the gate. However are the actuator motors not usually locked by some means in the closed position to stop wind moving them? This lock was what I had considered operating by means of some switch attached to a gate latch.

Endectop I hadn't really considered installing them myself - too much else in my plate.
