Bosch WAE28468 won't switch to spin cycle

ok. This is driving me potty. It doesn't happen all the time, only about once in every three washes or so.

Machine will wash ok and then go onto rinse cycle. However, it will not then switch to spin. The countdown will go down to 0:01 and the machine continually agitates. It sounds like it wants to switch but doesn't.

I then switch off the machine. I put it straight onto a drain or spin cycle, but nothing happens - it just hums. I have even left the machine switched off for half an hour or so before putting onto drain or spin cycle - but again nothing happens. Even tried putting the machine onto a quick wash cycle - nothing.

The only way to get round the problem, is to manually drain the machine through the emergency hose at the front, then remove the filter, thus releasing the excess water in there (the filter is always clear and the impeller rotates). Then switch the machine on, put straight onto a spin cycle and hey presto, we are up and running.

The next 2 or 3 loads work fine, before the problem happens again. It does not seem to correlate to any particular wash setting.

Please help. I hate washing machines at the best of times.......

Things to check: Is the water heating up? Is there a pipe from the drain pump up to a pressure switch & is it clear ( if it is does the pressure switch operate properly)? Are the motor brushes ok?

I've looked at this a little further and noted that it is not carrying out the rinse cycle properly. It does not drain and re-fill. It sounds like it's trying to drain, it hums sometimes loudly, but won't. Thus it never completes the cycle and turns the soapy water endlessly.

The humming sound suggests the pump is either jammed or faulty. You say you can turn the impeller freely in your other post so it sounds like you may need a new motor.

A new motor? Is that the same as a pump?

Machine will not spin if it does not drain completely or the load is unbalance [some models] or the motor brushes are close to worn out.Check the hose just before pump a coin can jam there and rotate sometimes blocking the pipe, other times not.

Hose appears ok, though did notice it was quite a way down the standpipe, so ensured it was only about 8 inches from the top.

Manually drained the machine, then put into rinse mode. It let in water (which I guess you would expect as there was nothing to drain), but then the same thing happens, I.e. Drain pump appears to have power, Impeller turns but no water actually being expelled. Display did change to spin, but the machine just constantly agitated, until I intervened. Now for another manual drain.....

Just done another manual drain, then put machine onto spin cycle. I can hear a "chonk, chonk, chonk" from the pump prior to the spin starting. Does this mean its actually working?

Could be a foreign object fouling the pump, you need to check the machine side of the pump not the outlet hose.Metal can be flicked back by the impeller so a quick look and all seems fine, need to stick a finger in there or hold a small mirror so you can see inside.Needles especially difficult to see and can stick thru the hose.

How did you ascertain that the impeller was turning while it was trying to drain? I think you need to remove the pump assy. & strip it down. On many models you can just buy a new motor & impeller rather than a complete pump assy. which is what I was referring to earlier. The fact that you can manually drain the machine seems to rule out blockages within the machine.
