USB Plug Sockets

Whilst you mention neons, those darn things must waste all of about 10mW to leave on!

Shower isolators, cooker switches, outdoor light switches, bell pushes, Oh we're nearly up to 50mW.......

Been watching as just fitted two. With my wife's initials on them LAP. One in caravan and one in living room.

My thoughts is they are less likely to fail than a wallmart version and if they do less likely to cause a fire as contained within a metal box in a brick and plaster wall.

OK caravan one is in a plywood surround at top of built in fridge but still feel safer than the wallmart versions.

It also frees up two 13A sockets so no need for extension leads.

As to IR tests or the 50mA usage I do not care. The Sky+ box uses far more than that to power the LNB so it can modify record times if I changed every socket in the house to USB types I still would not use as much as the sky+ HD box so until that's kicked to touch not worried about sockets.

Out of interest how much power does a filtered socket use?

A lot more than that, it seems - I've just measured a couple, and they were using about 85 mW (FCU) and 170 mW (13A socket) respectively (of which the amount dissipated in the resistor was about 40 mW and 135 mW respectively).

Yes, it all adds up, particularly over populations, so I guess I'm a bit naughty for not being able to get too excited about it. The way I look at it, from a personal point of view, is that 50 mW 24/7 for a year is equivalent to an immersion being on for about 8.8 minutes or a 10.5 kW shower for about 2.5 mins.

No, there really isn't.

Even by Chinese-carp-on-fleabay standards that item is egregiously dangerous.

But never mind - it has to be allowed - we mustn't try to stop eBay from helping people to sell it, as that would destroy life as we know it.

Yes, there really is.

Zoom in on the picture of the single socket rear. It is there, but it is not a tunnel terminal. Instead a clamp terminal, like some older MK sockets used to have.

There's a terminal with an earth symbol, but - in this picture -it looks to have a cover/blanking piece over it

On second thoughts....

OOI, do accessories like that have to comply with BS 1363?

Well that one doesn't, so the CE claim is false.
Well, there appears to be no marking which mentions BS1363. However, is that actually necessary - does the CE mark not indicate that the product complies "with all relevant standards"? I guess we need stillp here!

Kind Regards, John

That is what the CE mark indicates.

I think that BS 1363 requires compliant products to say so, but even if not, I see no shutters.
