What Car is this ?

Just spoke to a mate at DVLA. Unfortunately, car registrations were dealt with by local authorities and only transferred to DVLA in 1983/84. Anything prior to that would have been put on the DVLA computer if still taxed (or if taxed / changed owner since then) but that one hasn't. She did confirm that it was registered in London between 1903 and 1905 though, and given RDS' commnets above, that does suggest 1903.

I think you'd be pretty safe with 1903 -particularly after RDS' post about the Vauxhall. I guess it might have been slightly OLDER, if anything, as it might have been built before registration was compulsory, so it could have been in use for a while before 1903.

I'm going to hazard a guess that it's a Mercedes, due to the shape of the radiator and the bar under the starting handle. This pic is of a 1904 Mercedes:

Obviously if the car was registered in 1903, the picture could have been taken later.

The A indicates it was registered in London but could have moved on to a different region, the registration number would suggest that the car was register 1903 to maybe 1906 as not many registrations where carried out compared to todays standards. Registration Went upto 9999 and then another letter was added, each first letter signified the local area where the car was registered.
