Hello all new to these forums :), was hoping for some help in figuring out why my central heating isn't working. My boiler is heating the water without any problems but when I try and turn the central heating on it seems like it is going to turn on making all the right noises as usual but the radiators are not getting warm at all?? Things I have checked so far are :- 1) bled rads 2) checked water pressure that is ok at just over 1.5 bar. 3) all thermostatic rad valves are on. 4) tried turning the boiler off on the panel on the front turning back on and holding the bottom left button until it lights up red, tried this twice but no luck. Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I assume your model is Worcester Greenstar 30 CDi.

When hot water is off and heating is on, the diverter motor shaft should move to lower position, so check the diverter motor first.

Does the green gas light come on when you turn the heating on ?

Hi both. Gigz the green light only came on when i turned the system on and pressed the bottom left button, it came on for a while but went off. When i just try and fire the heating up the green light does not come on. Yes hertsboilers it is that model.

'Worcester 30CDi' could be;

30CDi Combi (now discontinued)
30CDi System
or 30CDi Regular/Conventional

Probably diverter paddle stuck or motor not moving paddle. Are the rads and pipework old. They block up with sludge real rasy

And the temperature on the CDi display when you've held the chimney sweep button in for ten seconds? What happens?

Daniel curry the upstairs have microbore pipe and the downstairs standard. Some rads are newer than others, but is probably fairly old.

Simod the temperature on the display started at 65 after pushing the chimney sweep button. It then went up to 71. Then counting down from u9 to u0. Then starts again at 99 counting down to 93 at the end of the process.

Sounds like there is no flow round the central heating, is there an airlock or a valve shut somewhere?

PS: don't do the sweep button again, the U numbers are overheat.

I'm not an expert repairing these (we are an installer predominantly and our installed base rarely goes wrong, and when it does there's normally at least 8yrs warranty) but would have thought if the diverter valve was stuck it would still be on HW.

The fact that the temp slowly drops suggests a very low flow round the CH system.

If this is a sudden occurrence and you haven't had slow warm ups last year I'd suspect an airlock in your pipework.

I have checked all the valves are open. There was a small amount of air in one of the upstairs rads. Tried to fire it again it came on initially for about 20 secs then the light went off. Thanks for your help though (n)
