standard sort of bw with radiator in it, which i think is not very efficient
is there some options for DIY insulation to the ceiling inside (must be 10-15mm thick) or how difficult would it be to do outside type job?
cheers

I once had this. The bay roof space was accessible (with difficulty) after removing a couple of floorboards from the room above. The cat went in and wouldn't come out.

If not, you could put a sheet of Kingspan or similar foamed insulation slab with bonded plasterboard on the ceiling, or you could deal with it when the bay needs reroofing. The space needs good ventilation, because bay roofs and their flashing often leak a bit.

this bay sticks out of the main house walls, no room above, just pitched roof.

So did mine. But there was still a gap between the joists into the bay roof.
