Vaillant engineer left nuts inisde boiler?

As you were the last person to "work" on the boiler all responsibility is now yours. If there is an insident the hse even go so far as to check fingerprints believe it or not. They go through the appliance with a fine toothed comb.

Firstly why on earth were you hanging over him? Would you like someone to hang over you when you're working? Unless you're into the gay porn industry then i would assume not. It's one of my pet hates that and it's rude.
Second point - why did you open the boiler back up to check his work after he left? What right do you have to do this, are you gas safe registered? Again I assume not.
Just leave it to the experts and stop being a nosey DIY bastard otherwise it will no doubt get you into hot water at some point.

7 years ago or not this customer sounds like a right pain. I'd have left more than the old nuts behind if someone was hovering round me. Plus the next engineer can see its had a g10 seal with the old-style nuts left

Plain nuts - rubber, locknuts - graphite

I do not have any issues with customer looking over my shoulder. A professional would easily be able to impress the looker with his skill.

Secondly, can vouch for some regulars here for being super professional, yet others I would not lend my screwdriver to in case they break it

Working in isolation gives some folk impression they are super engineers. It is not for the first time I have encountered end users that would put some heating engineers to shame. Of course there also are some end users that need hitting over the head with a cattle prod ( op appears to be one such person for going where he should not have when he opened the boiler)
