Installation process for Premier Elite Com2400

Hello:

I recently installed a Premier Elite 48 panel and it is working well.
I now want to install the Com2400 plug in digimodem.

Given that it needs to be installed onto the main PCB of the panel, I am thinking that it needs to be powered down completely. correct?

If yes, how do you actually do that without the alarm going off?
If I switch the main power off to the panel and disconnect the battery wouldn't the bell box will go nuts.

I have plugged them on a live panel just make sure they ae aligned properly.

to be fair it depends on the bell box, but if its a Texecom odyssey put that into engineers hold off and disconnect the power, plug in the com2400 and power back up.
 
"....... go nuts." It will sound for the 5/10 seconds that it is powered down, no problem.

I never plug on peripherals 'live', always better to be safe than sorry.

I powered the panel down, fitted, connected it to the phone line, and all is good.

I'm a little concerned about the reliability of the whole alert via SMS gateway approach, having done some reading it sounds like you do get issues with providers getting too busy and msgs getting delayed or in some cases sms not being sent at all.

Is there a smarter (low cost) way around this other than buying a speech dallier?
Is there some sort of ARC that as a private individual I could subscribe that provides a low cost / automated service?
 
Never had an issue with the sms , don't forget it's a free service ( apart from your call charge )

personally I always miss text's (or just ignore the alerts) so prefer a speech dialler as 30 seconds of ringing before it tries the next number, then repeat until I enter the confirmation code is harder to miss and of course the PSTN network is a hell of a lot more robust than the GSM network.

I have both a speech dialler and an Com Wifi though.
 
Even better just make it text one of the kids , they allways have a phone in front of them ! Lol

Hi -
Thanks for sharing. I went off on vacation for 10 days and handed my keys to a neighbor and a relative.
I wanted to test the robustness of the SMS approach so I configured it to notify me not only of alarms but of Arm and Disarm events too.
SMS worked when I left the house on vacation, when my relative visited while I was away, and when I returned home.
I thought all was fine until my neighbor returned the key and said they had popped in to put the post to the side.
I checked the event logs and confirmed that the neighbor had indeed disarmed and re-armed the system, SMS for both events did not make it through the system to my phone.
I then discovered that the relative had also visited that same day (twice in total) which also didn't make it through the system to my phone.

The best explanation I have is that the messaging gateway was down for at least 7 hours (spanning the time between the two visits).

Although not the biggest sample of events it only takes that one alarm notification to make a difference so I am keen to know how to get a better approach.

I presume you use the voice dallier + comIP because once you get the call you can check over the internet the zones and events?

Any idea the cost of this setup?

Any alternatives to this approach which gives a little more reliability but without paying a ARC?

No that's fine , that's the only issue I've had with the sms text.... No broadband filter makes it hit and miss
 
Can you check your phones call log to see if a connection was made but not completed, should see the SMS centre number in the phone log if it connected.

Did the visitors have there own code, if yes check report Open/close is on for that user in Wintex.
