We had a mini-disaster when flushing radiators. The hose slipped off the drain cock and water covered about a square metre of carpet (about 80% wool) before we stopped the flow. This was well into the flushing process so the water was clean and the carpet has dried with little or no staining. However, I am worried about the underlay. Should we lift the carpet to dry that as well or is it best to leave well alone? The carpet was professionally fitted about 3 years ago and the underlay is called "Cirrus" which is a felt-like material.

Always wise to lift everything out of the way to let the place dry naturally, I feel......just lift what you need, prop a chair or whatever underneath to keep it up and let the air in.

Thanks John. I've lifted the carpet and a good thing too as the underlay is saturated; I had hoped there might be more resistance to water penetration. I'll dry it out properly now before attempting to refit it
