Hi
I have 2 manholes 600 x 450 in the back garden, both have steel pressed covers, 1 has a steel frame which has caused no problems, the other has a black plastic frame and seems to of gone out of shape causing the concrete around it to crack and come away, I have dug out and refilled it but it has only lasted approx 10 months, it seems when anyone stands on the cover the plastic moves causing the fractures.

Is it possible to just buy the metal frame or does it have to be the frame and cover? the cover on the plastic one is fine.

Also is it an easy job to replace it ?

If required I can try to upload a photo tomorrow.

Thank you

I haven't seen a metal frame for a long time - you can screw the plastic frame down where the lid sits, if the brickwork under is fair flat.

if its cracking the frame must be flexing because its not bedded properly. best bet is to lift it and rebed it with fresh mortar. make it strong 3:1 plastering sand: cement

Thank you, will try re-bedding it.

I will dig it out and see if it possible to screw it in place, thank you.
