I am investigating a new tablet with:

7" screen

4G LTE

16GB

Phone connectivity

Nav

These beasts are very common in other markets, especially Asia, but not in Europe.

I have narrowed the choice down to:

Huawei Mediapad X2

Samsung Galaxy W SM-T255

However, both these are unavailable with all 3 LTE bands I need:

3 (1800), 7 (2600) and 20 (800).

My own preferred mobile provider, 3, is using 1800 for 4G, but will soon start using 800.

Shall I go for one of these or try and find one with all three bands, which I have totally failed to do so far?

The Huawei is available in a GEM701L model that is suitable, but I cannot find anywhere that stocks it. Everyone seems to stock only the GEM702L or GEM703L model.

The question was:

"Shall I go for one of these or try and find one with all three bands, which I have totally failed to do so far?"

Yeah, basically.

3 are using Band 3, 1800 but will start using band 20, 800 soon.

I don't want to be left behind technology-wise. However, if it is no big deal being limited to 1 band, I am happy to buy the afore-mentioned piece of kit.

If, though, anyone knows of a 7" tablet with phone capability that has Bands 3, 7 and 20 then I would be most happy to peruse said gear.

Cheers, folks.

Thanks.

Samsung Galaxy what, pip?

That covers 100's of devices!

Had a look at those phones: I have a Mega 6.3" like you did and I could do with bigger!

7" is the minimum now!!!

Hi donkey (lookin at ur picture haha)

have u been able to find a legit offer for the GEM-701L somewhere in Europe? Cause i am in love with the X2 also and i cant believe tht i missed out on it. ITS PERFECT.

They took it off the german market e.g. Media-Markt (biggest electronic store here) returned the X2 after they had listed it in may. The problem was ppl look at it as a phone in the first place BUT THT IS RIDICULOUS in my eyes cause HUAWEI sells it as a TABLET with a lovely 7" all the performance u need AND PHONE LTE CAPABILITY!!!

So for Trekking for example it would suit me perfectly cause i would ve had one device and not 2!

Now Huawei introduced the M2 and doesnt even show the X2 on their official site for europe (www.vmall.eu) AND WHY? CAUSE IT IS A STRIPPED DOWN VERSION OF THE X2 with 8" instead of 7" and not even MUCH cheaper (280 Euro instead of 350 Euro) but i can somehow understand Huawei, they had to react to the market cause some stupid germans say its a phone when it is sold as a tablet....

I am ****ed. If i d be in Saudi Arabia i could go in a shop tmrw morning and purchase me my DREAM TABLET for my expeditions and adventures.......sigh

So what is ur outcome / plan b .....

I will probably still buy one.

I don't understand why you cannot get hold of the MediaPad X2 in Germany, albeit, it won't be a GEM701L model, which I have not been able to locate anywhere in the world. I understand Media Markt have discontinued them and I have looked in vain myself at vmall. However...

I am ****ed.

Not necessarily.

Ebay has several GEM702L models. The following one is listed at €339 and has LTE bands 1/3/7/8/28.

http://www.ebay.de/itm/32GB-3GB-7-H...ne-Dual-SIM-/201425707728?hash=item2ee5e862d0

This means in Germany, the GEM702L will work (in terms of 4G) on

O² Eplus (Band 3)
Telekom (Bands 3 and 7)
Vodafone (Band 7)

It will not work (in terms of 4G) on

O² (Band 20)
Telekom (Band 20)
Vodafone (Band 20)

In the UK, the GEM702L will work (in terms of 4G) on

3 (Band 3)
EE (Bands 3 and 7)

It will not work (in terms of 4G) on

O² (Band 20)
Vodafone (Band 20)

As far as 3G goes, the GEM 702L supports UMTS bands 1/2/5/8.

All networks in Germany (Eplus, O², Telekom and Voda) use Band 1 UMTS so are supported by the GEM702L.

All networks in the UK (3, O², Orange/ T Mobile, Vodafone) use either Band 1 or Band 8 UMTS so are also supported by the GEM702L.

I saw this one here 2

http://www.ebay.de/itm/32GB-3GB-7-H...OctaCore-Smartphone-13MP-2XSIM-/371408928963?

and it says in description band 3 and 7 (location is the same as urs (Karlsruhe, Germany) only the chinese seller is different) so i contacted them about the model. No answer yet but i didnt even look into the 702. THAT MUST BE IT. IT IS A 702 not 703 :) UR ARE MY MAN!

What r u waiting for bro? Other than that its getting hot while playing games etc. i didnt hear of any major cons 2 this DREAM TABLET.

1. Did u find a offer on ebay where it is sold in TITANIUM GREY or silver would be fine as well?
2. Which offer would u take now? And how come u know its a 702?

I cant wait to hit the buy-button :) :) :) I need it by next week 2....

THX FOR UR HELP. APPRECIATED

You know the model number by the LTE bands that are supported by it.

Go to the Huawei website to see the individual specs for each of the 3 derivatives of the X2.

The de website of Huawei only mentions the X1 and M1 tablets, but the UK site has the specs here:

http://consumer.huawei.com/en/tablets/tech-specs/mediapad-x2.htm

Go to this page and scroll down to the "Connectivity" section. There you will find the differences between the different derivations of the X2.

I would have any colour but gold.

However, I am a very indecisive buyer, so won't be purchasing any time soon! Maybe 6-12 months.

okay. i will give it a go even though its golden which looks a lil gay on man i think but hey there were and r times man wear pink also :p if i could wait i would as well...

do u also think them 2 offers come from the same shop? which one would u go for?

just talked to telekom. band 20 (800Mhz) is explicitly for rural area. so i wont be able to get lte on the countryside. 3 and 7 is just fine for most urban areas. but if that's all i still go for it only the color gold is not mine either....

Did u find any offers in grey or silver?

Thx bud

Not in Germany and not at the same price.

France have silver ones at €500.

At that price it may be worth considering buying from Ebay in the UK at £280 or €381

Still not as cheap as the gold one from ebay.de

For me, if the price difference was that much, I might not worry about the colour and buy the cheaper one...
