Hey everyone,

We've decided to go for a wooden floor in our bedroom as to our delight the boards were in pretty good condition :) we've also decided to do this ourselves too.

Preparing the floor before sanding is our first challenge. I was going to use a chisel to leaver the rods out, is this the best method? In terms of the holes left behind by the nails, I was going to mix some sawdust and Pva, is this a good plan? If so, what's the best way to get it onto the holes?! (bearing in mind I'd have it in some kind of pot if I've mixed it with sawdust).

And help or advice much appreciated.

Thanks :)

Consider a claw hammer or a pry bar to get the rods up.....count how many times you get spiked!
Use a cellulose filler of the appropriate colour to fill the holes, applied with a spatula ( or finger!)
Good luck with your project

Thanks John. Do you think a Pva and sawdust mix is a bad way go go then? By cellulose filler do you mean the flexible fillers you'd apply wuth a gun? Would that not just leave does which don't quite blend in?

A spare! I'd never have thought of that! If my back starts giving me grief I may switch to it! Cheers for the reply.

DIY sheds / hardware shops stock tubs of ready made filler....much better than faffing around with dust and pva. Choose one as near as you can in colour to the floorboards.

I don't use enough of them I'm afraid but I'm sure they are much the same......cellulose based ones dry quicker, but have a look at the colour match first.

Thanks John, I guess it'll be a lot easier to apply too, I'm visioning a small tube with a semi fine nozzel for some reason.
