Hi,
Belt broke on my hotpoint acquarius washing machine and I have replaced it this evening.

However, when I turn the drum, the belt moves on the drum pulley towards the drum. It shifts so much that the drum then won't move.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

Something is way out of alignment here, Rachel......has the motor pulley become damaged somehow? Both pulleys need to be in line.
Is it a flat belt or a multi vee one?
John :)

Hi John
It is a multi grooved belt. The motor is wider than the belt so I placed the belt in the middle. Perhaps I gave aligned it incorrectly?
Thanks
Rachel

Usually, the motor pulley has the same number of grooves as the belt itself - the drum pulley may or may not have any grooves at all.
If the motor pulley is tilted for some reason, then the belt will wander.....it needs to be parallel with the drum. Is it possible to give us a pic?
John :)

The drum pulley doesn't have grooves. The washing machine is located in the garage where the light isn't that good so I could take a pic in daylight tomorrow.
I have been doing a bit more research in the last hour and have a horrible feeling it could be the bearings...
Will try and take picture tomorrow...
Thanks for your help

It could be....wear in the bearings would cause the pulleys to be out of alignment.
A test......open the drum door, grip the inner drum where it meets the door seal. If you can rock it (maybe with a knocking sound) then the bearings may have called it a day.
John :)

Thanks John, I will try that in the morning....
