gas pipe in stub wall battened off

The reality is that we don't know if this is an existing gas pipe or not. The OP has not made that very clear.

I only made a general statement about DIY gas work.

Not having a pop at you Tony :) It's just that these threads seem to have a habit of ending up with that discussion, funny enough I was going to post before I saw your entry;)

I made a common mistake when speaking to customers rather than RGIs and I think that DP did as well.

A gas mixture which will burn is correctly described as "flammable" rather than the common parlance of "inflammable".

I have corrected my earlier post and suggest that DP does as well.

The gas pipe on the left is 5 inches from the socket. I know this should be 6 inches away min. But is it ok as there is a batten inbetween I.e an insulating material?

capable of being set on fire; combustible; flammable.

What can I say:cautious:

AND gas will burn above UEL, not just between LEL and UEL:LOL:

The E is for explosive. An explosion is where the rate of burning is considered ( or later found ) to be such that the rate of expansion of gases ( air, unburnt gas and combustion products ) will be such that a shock wave with destructive energy will be created. ( school room physics circa 1958 )

But the pipe is not encased throughout its length.

It has a batten either side of the pipe through out its length. The same as your diagram.

There's a batten on the left, the gas pipe. Another batten after this. Then you have the rest of the void with the socket in.
