Now if you were doing a PhD and owned your house I might be more impressed.
Unless he was planning to take up employment in the same location as the university it would be sensible to live in rented accommodation rather that buy a property for a few years and then have the hassle of selling.

And not all renters are dim witts, for some people renting is the better option due to the financial implications that come with owning a business that could fail overnight. A grower of tomatoes lost his business when a hail storm destroyed the green houses and the crop that had already been sold. By renting his home he did not lose it in the resultant financial disaster.

I know not all renters are idiotsidiots. I look after hundreds of rental properties.

Hence I have very little sympathy for those who whine about a boiler not working weeks/months after it was due an inspection. The reminder for which in the case of my customer's, has cost me both time and money.

Outsourcing of HA repairs -. Back in the 80's I worked for a HA. directly employed, pension etc.( wot I draw now(y)) and I would have been at the property in question next day. Guess who sold off the DLOs ( direct labour organisations). But there is still money in the pot for some things- like resurfacing the roads on an estate while the rest of the town is full of potholes:notworthy:
