just put a sony cd player into my Peugeot partner. Got all the bits from halfords. I've connected the live to the cigar lighter but even with the keys out and the van locked the unit is still switched on and lit up. Its one of those where you have to flick the facia off. When i do this its seems off (no lights) but have i done it right or do i run the risk of flattening my battery ? P.S. The dash display (clock etc is now flashing and it had to be set using the peugeot radio, is there another way of setting it ?

Your radio will have two live inputs mate.....one for the memory (permanent) and one for the set itself (switched live).
Is it possible you have them the wrong way round?
John :)

Halfords told me to connect the long red lead to a fuse holder, take the fuse out of the fuseboard and plug it into the holder, then the holder goes into the board. I've never had one of these radio's before but with the volume turned down i think it would be easy to leave it on.

Sorry gigz but I'd trust Halfords 'technicians' as far as I could throw them
Far better to plough through the new set connection diagram, I think.

The Yellow wire on the Sony is the permanent live, the Red wire is the Ignition switches feed, make sure that when you take the red wire to an ignition switched feed that you disconnect the bullet connector from the vehicle wiring, so that the wire runs from your ignition feed directly into the radio. If you have a test light or multimeter, check that the feed goes on and off with the ignition key.

Hope that helps

This is the setup, the red wire is coming from the cigarette lighter. I've tried swapping the red and yellow bullet connectors round but its still on permenantly. I seem to have spare blue and pink wires ? Its working fine for hands free through the aux but worried in case i forget to flip the facia off. P.S. Bottom of picture is the radio.

I assume you have checked that the cigar lighter is ignition switched and not permanent ?

Well the lighter only works with the engine on.

I'm curious about this one.....wouldn't the original set have both live and switched live plus an earth anyway?
I'm not sure about connecting to the fag lighter - concerned about fuse ratings there.....that is a switched live.
I guess another set input would become live when the van lights were switched on.
Gigz - has the new set got it's earth connected.....the genuine earth? Maybe it's best to find it with a multimeter if unsure about the colour.

Id have to agree, the only thing ive ever had to do on some stereo swaps is switch the permanent and switched lives around.
Time to break out the multimeter i think.

Cheers for the help guys. Halfords originally gave me the wrong harness (from reg plate onto their computer). Luckily i tried it in before i left the carpark. I then tried the new harness in, it fitted but nothing lit up, but the cd came out when i pressed eject so there's a live going to it from the harness but this wouldn't get it to light up. Guy said thats why i need a live to lighter. I haven't had time to get my MM on it today (still at graft till 8ish) so will check tomorrow. The red going from the fag lighter fuse i assumed to be switched because i have a usb charger with a blue neon on it that only lights up with the key turned on.

I don't know if this is relevant or not, but the radio can only be used for 10 min or so without the ignition being switched on.....it goes into 'Eco mode'.
Any comments on that, anyone?
John :)
