So going through the stages of a self build learnt that most trades get commission when they recommend another trade, ie brickie recommend me a good roofer, bricke gets a unsaid cut for the recommendation, ive always passed on contacts only to find out ive paid finder fees

Ive got the opportunity to do the same large job, build loft extension, large ground floor extension, usual stuff, value of job 155k,it nots something that i have time to take on, I know a great builder who I can vouch for, whats my cut for passing on the job, whats reasonable for a finders fee.

Thanks

Are you taking on the responsibility of the finished job, or just mentioning a name in passing to the person wanting the work done ?

just passing on the contact, to some extend some responsibility will come my way.

I've never expected nor given commission to other trades as far as I'm concerned it's about building relationships and what you give you get back.
Other than maybe a pint or two down the pub.

Other than a pint down the pub thats as far as it goes,

or are you starting up a " Find a Tradesman" business ?

i used to work for a firm who around this time used to purchase large amounts of bottles of quite expensive plonk/whiskey etc.and spend a few days going round his various contacts/merchants etc to say thank you for the last year.he never let on whether he parted with any cash.

A particular long standing boat owning, holiday home owning, new VW van for work, even newer land rover for personal use, living in an £800k house client of mine (specialises in top end garage conversions) makes no mistake in charging me £50 per job he gives me, most jobs I do for him are probably under £300, just put £50 on the price and the client will end up paying was his response when I first expressed a little surprise by his approach.

Never charged nor paid for a recommendation and never will.

A pint and a thank you is enough, though I must admit I've never given £155k job away, in fact I've never done a £155k job.
